Flora Lou Johnson (94) of Amarillo, Texas, crossed the River to Paradise on Friday, August 5, 2022. Her final days were rich with family she loved and to whom she devoted her life.
Flora was born in Munday, TX on October 25, 1927. She was the eighth of ten children, born to Fred and Ruth Moore who were life-long residents of Plainview, TX.
Her most cherished titles were daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She and her husband, Marlin, worked hard and raised their large family together in Albuquerque, NM. They were members at Riverside Church of Christ. Flora was an LPN at Presbyterian Hospital, and she worked at a fabric shop for many years. She also volunteered to make pies for the Christian Student Center’s booth at the New Mexico State Fair for many years.
Flora was a talented quilter and seamstress and blessed each grandchild with a quilt upon establishment of their own households. The ladies she quilted with were some of her dearest friends and travelling companions. Marlin and Flora also travelled together by Honda Goldwing motorcycle through all of the lower 48 states, often with their friends. Flora loved New England fall colors, coffee, a good laugh, babies, holding hands, gardening, ice cream, crossword puzzles, playing in the water, camping, American history, and not wearing shoes. She was known to her family and friends to be somewhat of a smarty-pants, and moderately argumentative, in addition to her other fine qualities: generosity, good humor, industriousness, faithfulness, kindness, and trustworthiness.
Above all, Flora loved the Lord and her Bible could usually be found lying open on the kitchen table. Her heart longed for the salvation and faithfulness of her children and grandchildren, and she was heard singing hymns into her final days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, all her siblings, a son, three daughters-in-law, and one son-in-law.
She is survived by daughters, Jeanne Donovan and husband, Nowell (Fort Worth, TX) and Nancy Jones (Katy, TX); sons, Darrell and his wife, Marrion (Seminole, TX), David (Lubbock, TX), Danny and his wife, Angie (Canyon, TX), and Ronald and his wife, Raht (Amarillo, TX); 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
