Flora Farrelly, nee Del Buono, 98, passed away in her sleep on March 16, 2022. Flora was born and raised in central Florence, Italy, a few blocks from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. In the years following World War II, she fell in love with and married a US serviceman stationed in Italy named Stephen. This relationship took her to the United States, where she spent time in New York and Santa Fe before settling down in 1948, in a house built for her by Stephen on what was then the remote East Mesa of Albuquerque.
In that house, she raised her two beloved children, David, and Diana, and resided there until her death. In addition to helping to run the family's rental property business for decades, Flora loved swimming in her private pool, hosting garden parties in her lush backyard, and traveling the world - she circumnavigated the world on one trip and was proud to have traveled at various times on the Orient Express, the QE2, and the Concorde. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Stephen, in 2006.
She leaves behind her son, David (and wife, Mary), of Albuquerque; daughter, Diana (and husband, Thomas Scalf), of Bernalillo; grandson, Jeremiah, of Charles County, Maryland; granddaughter, Victoria (and husband, Arturo Montoya), of Rio Rancho: Tess Morrison of Albuquerque, and great-grandson, Jack Montoya.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Francesco Standoli, MD, and Leslie Dork, CNP for their care of Flora that extended over many years. She will be interred with her husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in a private event; in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Jemez Valley Animal Amigos.
