Longtime Albuquerque resident Flavia Hirt passed away on January 1, 2025 peacefully in her home. Born in Carnegie, Pennsylvania on August 21, 1921, she was the second oldest and last living of eleven children.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward C. Hirt. She is survived by their son Tod E. Hirt, his wife Julianne and grandchildren Samuel and Caroline.
She served the community her entire life. During her lifetime of volunteering she served several terms on the board of directors of each of the following organizations: the Pennington County American Red Cross, the Assistance League of Albuquerque, the Chaparral Girl Scout Council, the Lew Wallace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the senior board of the New Mexico State Society of the Children of the American Revolution, the Senior Group of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, and The Friendship Force of New Mexico, of which she and her husband were charter members.
She and her husband were poll workers for decades and they volunteered 19 years in the Balloon Mail booth at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. She was a member of the Symphony Guild and the Coronado Thunderbirds and an active member of the Democratic Women of Bernalillo County.
She will be interred with her husband at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in the future.
