Fernando Carrasco

May 30, 1921 — June 8, 2012

On June 8, 2012, our Lord and the angels came for our mother's beloved husband and our precious daddy. He was our world and now it is empty! Fernando was born in Mentone, Texas on May 30, 1921 to Apolonio Q. Carrasco and Ysabel R. Carrasco. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Irenio, Juan, Fransisco and sister, Aurora C. Cushman. He is survived by his two sisters, Lupe C. Rubio and Estella Carrasco from Ft. Stockton, Texas. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Lucaria; daughter, Annabelle Lucero and husband, Ray, daughter, Linda Carrasco-Smith and husband, E.J. and daughter, Catherine Carrasco; his seven grandchildren, Lawrence, Steve, Chris Lucero, Jennifer Woodall and Julianne Sunseri, Toni Smith-Skabelund and Alexandra Gutierrez; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Fernando was a proud WWII veteran: Sgt. F.R. Carrasco, 16th Fighter Control Squadron A, U.S. Air Corps. He flew in several missions in B-17 and B-29 bombers as a Crew Chief. He was a proud and talented journeyman carpenter for over forty years with carpenters Union Local 1319. He was a member of San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church for seventy years. He and his wife Lucaria were married there in 1943. He was a proud usher and volunteer, also working on many church building projects. His favorite color was red. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church in Old Town. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be his five great-grandsons, Estevan, Andres, Alejandro, Jacob and C.J. Lucero, and his loving son-in-law, E.J. Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Toni Smith-Skabelund, his first grandchild and his lifetime best friend, Sixto Saavedra. He will have full military honors for his burial at Mt. Calvary.
