Felipita "Pita" Garcia, 96, beloved mother, was called to her eternal resting place on Saturday, September 1, 2018.
She entered this world on December 8, 1921 in Dixon, NM born to Francisco and Florentina Martinez. She is survived by her daughters, Hazel Rosalie (Rollin) Erickson of Albuquerque, Arleen Evelyn Garcia of Layton, UT, Elizabeth (Dan) Volkmann of Phelps, WI, and Elaine Rose Torrez of Northglenn, CO. She is also survived by her sister, Rose Maestas of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Pita was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ulysses, on February 15, 2009; and her son, Lloyd Anthony Garcia on June 15, 2018.
As a young girl, Pita attended Presbyterian schools, graduating from Menaul High School in 1939. She then attended business college in Santa Fe, becoming a secretary and receiving an appointment for a government job in Washington, D.C., working there during the early years of WWII. Pita married Ulysses in 1943, after the end of the war they raised their five children in Albuquerque. Pita reentered government service in 1963, working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until her retirement in 1978. Enjoying almost 40 years of retirement, Pita was able to travel, attend many family and school reunions, and participate in church activities. She relocated across the country in her 80's, in her own words, to do her most important work, take care of her beloved Ulysses until his death in 2009 with the help of daughter, Elizabeth and son-in-law Dan in Wisconsin. Pita exemplified a life well lived.
