Evelyn Allender Jones passed away very unexpectedly on April 30, 2013 in Oviedo, FL, where she had made her new home only five months prior. At the age of 87, complications from a fall at her residence critically weakened her and led to her untimely passing. Born on July 16, 1925 in Stillwater, OK, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Glenda Allender; her treasured husband of 63 years, Steve Jones; and beloved grandson, Morgan Hutchins. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Kay Jones-Hutchins of Colorado Springs, CO; her son, Ray Jones of Oviedo, FL; grandson, Taylor Hutchins of Denver, CO; granddaughter, Katie Jones of Oviedo, FL; grandsons, Brian Jones and Kevin Jones of Oviedo, FL; great-grandson, Tanner Jones of Oviedo, FL; her brother, Herbert Allender; and nephew, Kendall Allender, both of Hutchinson, Kansas. Evelyn was a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. During WWII, she taught Freshmen Chemistry on the same campus. After marrying Steve in 1947, she and Steve and their young family began a tri-state journey that would ultimately bring them to Albuquerque, where they made their home for 51 years. Evelyn had a good head for business and loved to crunch numbers. Together with Steve, she owned and operated resort property in Northern New Mexico for more than a decade, kept the books for Steve's Repair Service for over 25 years and retired after 15 years from the First United Methodist Church as bookkeeper and administrative secretary. Evelyn was defined by her faith, family and friends. She was a consummate bridge player, an avid bowler, a maven of crossword puzzles and could never find green chili quite hot enough for her! She surrounded herself with loving, positive, hard-working people and everyone was the richer for having known her. She was devoted to her family, and we to her. We are blessed with a multitude of treasured memories. We will miss her dearly and always love her. Services will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2013, 2:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead Ave. SW. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Methodist Women, 314 Lead Ave. SW, 87102 or to the Albuquerque Assistance League, 5211 Lomas Blvd. NE 87110.
