Age 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2012. She is survived by her children, Scott Hein and his wife, Ellen, Adele Montez, Steve Hooper and his wife, Jolynn Galvin and Fred Hooper and his wife, Carol; sister, Marjorie Lalicker; brother, Gerald Martin; grandchildren, Tracey Griffith, Jocelyn Rubinetti, Tim Hooper, Craig Harlan, Shayna Lucero, Eric Hooper, Amy Downing, Chanz Montez, Jeff Hooper, Patrick Hooper and Kaitlin Hooper; and thirteen great-grandchildren, who called her "Sugar". Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Hooper; son, John C. Hooper II; parents, William A. and Lillian Martin. Born in Girvin, TX and raised in Albuquerque, "Gramma Ev" married the love of her life, John Hooper, and raised five children, as only a loving mother could. A lifelong homemaker, she was the backbone of our family. She "learned" us that life's obstacles will be overcome by being honest, compassionate and caring for others ahead of our own problems. Evelyn was active in numerous organizations, including NM Homemakers College, the American Legion, Just Us Girls Club (Jefferson Junior High), Fluffy's, as well as numerous charitable organizations throughout her life. In spite of her recent health issues, her passion for arts and crafts, shopping for others, the Dallas Cowboys, watching golf, and telling jokes remained intact. A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., at French- Lomas Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Evelyn's memory to Joy Junction, P.O. Box 26568, Albuquerque, NM 87125 or a charity of your choice.
