The handmaid of God, Evangeline Rebecca Lucero, was peacefully born into eternal life on Friday, May 6, 2022, surrounded by her loving husband and primary caregiver, Frank J. Lucero, Sr., her three sons, Frank Jr., Edwin, and Ferron Sr., and three daughters-in-law, Rita, Christa, and Angela.
She began her earthly life on April 7, 1933, when she was born to Frank and Fructosa Baca Lujan in Roy, NM. Her growing-up years were spent in Roy, Sabinoso, NM, on her father's ranch, and in Las Vegas, NM, where she was educated by the Sisters of Loretto at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic School.
She married the love of her life, Frank Sr., on October 6, 1951, a sacramental bond that lasted 70 years and 7 months to the day. After his stint in the US Army and a couple of job changes in between, they settled down in Las Vegas, NM, to start and to raise their family.
Evangeline worked for many years in the banking industry at the Bank of Las Vegas. In about 1977, she and Frank re-located to Albuquerque, NM, where she continued to work at the Bank of America until her retirement in 1995. After retirement, she and Frank ran their ranch in the Trementina, NM, area for several years until they both decided to fully retire.
Besides her husband, sons, and daughters-in-law, Evangeline is survived by eight grandchildren: Frank J. III, who was practically raised by his grandparents and is married to Angela, Candace Lucero, Mitchell Lucero who is married to Acee, Ferron Lucero., Jr., Sheree Lucero, Keisto Lucero, Matt Medina who is married to Ambyre, and Kristin Ferguson, who is married to Jason. Also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren to include the Lucero kids: Gabriel (Brianna), Diego, Jerome Dominic (Alyssa), Felicity, Levi, Hudson, Haven, Lainee, Isabella, Elias, Ace; Azaiah Medina, Daxson, and Beauden Ferguson.
She leaves behind two siblings, Martha Tafoya of Arizona, and Henry Lujan of Albuquerque as well as her special sister-in-law, Viola Ortiz also of Albuquerque. She is survived also by a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Evangeline is a devout Roman Catholic who served the Lord by caring for, providing for, and loving her entire family. She was selfless in many ways, making herself last so that her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and husband could be first. She is dearly missed yet we are elated that the Handmaid of God Evangeline, after tirelessly serving God in her family, is now enjoying the ever-lasting joy and peace of God's Kingdom.
May her memory be eternal. "By Frank J. Lucero Jr."
