December 3, 1920 — July 19, 2015

Hernandez, Evangeline
Evangeline "Vangie" C de Baca Hernandez, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 19, 2015. She is survived by her children, Andrea Rector, David Hernandez and wife, Cindy Trudeau, Dan Hernandez and partner, Barbara Kraft, and Cristina Hernandez-Letherer; grandchildren, Stephanie Gutierrez-Torok, Damien Valdespino (Tracy). Danielle Robison (Will), Jack Hernandez, Ben Hernandez (Trey), Jenny Trudeau, Aleah France (Mike) and Andrea Letherer; great-grandchildren, Tyler Torok, Parker Torok, Aiden Valdespino, Madison Valdespino, Isaac Robison, Andres Robison and Elisa France. Vangie was preceded in death by her husband, Judge and Ambassador Benigno "B.C." Hernandez.
Vangie graduated from St. Vincent's Academy, the University of New Mexico and received her Master's degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She and Dad were married in 1943 and lived in Corpus Christi, TX, during the war years where Dad was a Navy pilot. They lived in Chicago while Dad was in law school at De Paul and Mom worked as a psychiatric social worker at the Cook County Hospital. They moved back to Albuquerque to start their family and live busy active lives. The family moved to Asuncion, Paraguay in 1967 where Dad served as the U.S. Ambassador. Mom was not only involved with us and our busy schedules but also took a keen interest in community volunteerism. She thoroughly enjoyed her 25 years as a docent with the Albuquerque Museum. She was an active UNM Alum. She enjoyed her friends with Pan American Round Table, and she loved golf with her gal-pals at the Albuquerque Country Club. Mom's travels took her all over the world which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was an avid reader and had a special passion for mysteries. Mom loved entertaining and all our family gatherings were a special time for all of us. Mom was also an active and devout member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church parish.
We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our family and friends for their love. We also want to thank Mom's wonderful caregivers Veronica Trujillo, Erlinda Vigil and Kalsang Dolkar for their love, kindness and care they gave to Mom.
Cremation and burial has taken place. A memorial reception and celebration of her life is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, 2015, 2:00 p.m., at the Albuquerque Museum, 2000 Mountian Rd NW, 87104.
