Eugenio Baldonado

It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Eugene 'Baldy' Baldonado on January 28, 2025 at the age of 83. Gene was born in November 1941 to Lorenzo and Josefita Herrera. He graduated from Valley High School in 1960.

Eugene joined the US Army in 1960 leaving the service as a sergeant in 1963. Gene joined the Albuquerque Fire Department in 1964, retiring in 1986 as a lieutenant. 'Baldy' was part of the 6th AFD Cadet Class and remained active with his firefighter brothers in retirement including being an Advisory Board Member of the AFD Retiree Association.

In July of 1964, Gene married the love of his life, Rose Marquez, spending 46 years happily married while having two children and one grandson.

Gene is survived by his daughter Darla, her partner Wendy, his son Lawrence and his grandson Mark. Also prevailed are his brothers Raymond and Benny Baldonado and his sister Fida Montoya. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose, his brothers Jimmy, Berlin, Lorenzo Baldonado along with his sisters Helen Martinez and Clyda Barret.

Gene was a constant source of support to all who knew him. He was incredibly kind and cheerful, with a warm and generous spirit. He almost always had a funny story to tell. Gene was often witty with a great sense of humor, always with a funny story to make you smile. He had strong faith and always ended his plans with "if God's willing..." Those who knew him are grateful for every moment spent with him. Gene had a passion and talent when it came to fixing things, from electrician to handyman. He could fix anything around the house. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, friend and neighbor. His kindness, generosity and love will never be forgotten.

A rosary is set for February 26th at 6 P.M. and a service to celebrate Eugene's life will be held on February 27th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Therese Church. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Albuquerque Fire Department Retirees Association.
