Esch, Gerald "Jerry" Lee
Gerald "Jerry" Lee Esch passed into the loving arms of God after a five year battle with Alzheimer's on Thursday, May 19, 2016 surrounded by his family, loved ones, and friends.
Jerry was born in Hastings, NE on October 4, 1947. He attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney on a basketball scholarship and received a BS in Math and Business Administration. After graduating from the University of Colorado with an MBA in Operations Research he moved to New Mexico in 1976 to work at Sandia National Laboratories. Jerry retired as a Senior Level Manager after 31 years of service. He was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church for 40 years.
Participating in and watching sports brought much joy to Jerry's life. He was an avid Huskers, Lobos, and Broncos supporter. Rarely idle in his spare time he enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques, playing golf, riding motorcycles, and driving exotic cars and trucks. He especially enjoyed poker, an occasional cigar, and Jack and Coke with cherished buddies. He will be missed by his friends at Sandia Casino where he loved to gamble and play bingo.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Barbara; son, Gerald Esch Jr. (wife Amy) of Fort Collins, CO; daughter, Brandy Esch (husband Mike) of Greeley, CO; stepson, Paul Petersen (fiancée Stephanie Mena) of Albuquerque, NM; stepdaughter, Laura Lyle (husband Joseph) of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Jon Brandon, Hutton Lee, Dalton, Andrew, Sean, Ally; his sister, Carol Beran (husband Tom) of Lincoln, NE; nephews, Matt (wife Sheri), Casey (wife Holly), Brady (wife Amber), and Joe (wife Sarah); and many dear and special friends especially Greg, Bill, Grant, Herb, Miguel, and the DGPC. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Alvin and Leona Esch and brother, Roger.
Memorial Service will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016, 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111 with Pastor Bruce Wilder officiating, followed by a reception at the church.
