Ernest Montoya, age 97, beloved father, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away on Friday, July 29th, 2016. Ernest was very proud of his service in the United States Army during WW II and spent three-and-a-half years in a Japanese slave labor camp after being captured on Corregidor. He was well known for his service in the Bataan Veterans Organization, Albuquerque Chapter. He was instrumental in the creation of the Bataan Memorial, which was dedicated on April 7th, 2002. Ernest had many interests, including flying, judo, investing and computers. He excelled at everything he did. He is survived by his children, Karma Enlow and Stephen Montoya; and his grandchildren, Greg Enlow, John Enlow and Jerry Enlow. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Martin. He also leaves many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. Also touching Ernest's life were his many friends, whom he dearly loved. Ernest was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Velia Victoria Montoya; his parents, Adolph and Ruth Montoya; and three brothers, Felix, Richard and Norbert. Friends may visit one hour prior to the Rosary, Thursday, August 4, 2016, 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 5, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Interment will follow the services, 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
