Ernest David Mascarenas, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away February 2, 2019. Ernest was born in Ocate and raised in Roy, New Mexico. After high school he joined the army where he served for two years. After his return from the army he moved to Albuquerque and attended the University of New Mexico and, after graduating with a degree in Political Science, he met and married the love of his life, Ernestine Manzanares. They raised a family of five in New Mexico, Mexico, El Paso, Texas, and then Albuquerque. Ernest and Ernestine were active members of the Catholic Church and very active in politics. His hobbies were gardening, bird watching, and playing sports in his youth. Ernest was a successful business man who owned his own insurance agency, Mascarenas Enterprises, Inc. for over 50 years until his son, David, took it over when Ernest was in his 80s. He stayed active in the agency for several years after his retirement.
Ernest lived his last two years in the Veterans Care Home of Mary and Shawn Justus. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to them for all they did for him. Ernest is survived by three loving daughters and their spouses; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many friends and relatives.
The Rosary will be recited Tuesday, February 12, 2019, 8:30 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m.
