Ernest Eusebio Arvizu

Ernest Eusebio Arvizu (Ernie), age 67, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle was called home to meet his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, due to complications related to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Throughout his courageous battle, he was surrounded by his loving family.

Ernie was born in El Paso, TX on Tuesday, July 3, 1951, and raised on his parents' ranch in San Antonio, NM. He enjoyed telling stories of his childhood and his motorcycle adventures. His favorite of stories included the time spent in his early twenties, riding his motorcycle, “protecting the innocent” from the bullies of Socorro, NM. Up until his last months, he continued to enjoy cruising his motorcycle alongside his son, Glenn, and nephew, Seb, his favorite riding partners.

In his late teens, he was eager to start his career as a Freightliner; a career he enjoyed for fifty years. He was thrilled and spoke highly of his sons who followed in his footsteps.

Ernie enjoyed deer hunting and camping. He took pride in teaching his grandson how to use firearms and spoke eagerly of the times they spent together at the shooting range. Ernie was a loving father and uncle, but being a grandpa was his favorite job of all. He loved making his grandchildren laugh, spoiling them rotten, and helping them break their parents' rules (an event they all seemed to find very entertaining). Ernie could light the room with his infectious smile, laugh, and silly, sometimes, corny jokes. Most remember him by his beautiful smile and undying generosity.

Ernie is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Josephine (Rendon) Arvizu; his children, Ernest Arvizu Jr. and Jana Thompson, Glenn Arvizo and wife, Devona, Eleanor Williams and husband, Deric, Nathaniel Arvizu and wife, Jessica, and Kristal Vargas and husband, Edward; siblings, Rita Arvizu, Dora Chavez and husband, Jimmy, Helen Rivera, Rose Truitt and husband, Terry, Eloise Valdez and husband, Pedro, Jennie Baldonado and husband, Placido, Henry Arvizu and wife, Cecelia, and Marty Arvizu and wife, Rebakah; grandchildren, Kristina and Alex, Anthony and Jasmin, Ernest, Elliot, Nathaniel Jr., Angelique, Devin, Ashlyn, Ryan, and Rayden; great-grandchildren, Noah, and Nayeli; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Arvizu Sr. and Alice Estrada Arvizu; brother, Manuel Arvizu Jr.; and granddaughter, Natasha Arvizu.

The family would like to thank their family and friends who have offered continued support as well as the numerous ICU Nurses, Respiratory Techs, and Nurse Techs that contributed to Ernie’s care during the time he spent at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center.

In Ernie’s memory, the family asks that you put on your best smile, tell a few corny jokes, and remember to stand, brave, alongside those who stand alone.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, 6:30 p.m., at FRENCH – Westside. A Rosary will be recited immediately following at 7:00 p.m.

A celebration Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Josephs Dr. NW. Interment to immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
