Emma Jean (Vigil) Williams died peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the age of 92. She was born in Ensenada, NM to Ignacita and Eduardo Vigil. After graduating from school in Chama, NM, she moved to Denver and Los Angeles to work. She was recruited by the Foreign Service and worked for the U.S. State Department for several years – stationed in Washington, DC, Honduras, Uruguay, and traveling throughout Central and South America with the diplomatic corps.
When Emma was home between assignments, she met George Williams of Oklahoma who was traveling across country working for the Bureau of Land Reclamation. They got married soon after and Emma resigned from the State Department. Emma and George had a daughter (Jean Camile) who died shortly after birth. They later had two sons and settled in Albuquerque. After staying home to raise her boys, Emma went to TVI to get professional administrative training and then worked for GTE Lenkurt, American Home Furnishings and UNM in the Office of Student Housing. She retired from UNM in 1992.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter and husband; as well as her sisters, Lily, Susie, Dora, Margie and Liz. She is survived by her son, Forrest and wife, Debi; son, Jim and husband, Bill; sister, Roseanne Radanovich; brothers, Edward Vigil, Jr. and wife, Luz, and Joe Vigil; as well as numerous well-loved nieces and nephews and many special friends.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, 2621 Vermont St. NE. A private Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Emma’s name to either Annunciation Parish or the charity of their choice.
