It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Emma Lois Pettis, who peacefully departed this life on January 9, 2025, in Belen, New Mexico. Born on July 7, 1931, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Emma lived a life rich in love, creativity, and community service, leaving an indelible imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Emma dedicated her professional life to human services as a compassionate case worker for the State of New Mexico, providing support and guidance to those in need. Her passion for helping others extended beyond her career; she was a devoted seamstress and crocheted blankets to be part of the Wounded Warriors Project. Emma's heartfelt contributions ensured that many wounded warriors received hand-crafted quilts, a testament to her unwavering commitment to support those who served our country. In recognition of her efforts, she proudly received a letter from General David Petraeus, acknowledging her noble work.
Music also held a special place in Emma's heart. An accomplished pianist, she could often be found filling the home with melodies that brought joy and comfort to her family. Emma's love for the color pink brightened her surroundings, reflecting her vibrant spirit and zest for life.
Emma was a cherished mother to her four children, Carl, Ray, Kathleen, and Darrell Pettis, and a proud grandmother to six grandchildren, including her beloved granddaughter, Amber Benavidez. Her legacy continues through her twelve great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. Emma was preceded in death by husband, Leonard Pettis; son, Ray Pettis; and parents, Lewis and Birdie Bradshaw.
In her passing, Emma is survived by her loving family who will forever remember her warmth, creativity, and compassion.
Funeral services will be held in her honor Thursday, January 30, 2025, 11:00 a.m., at FRENCH - University. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. The ceremonies will celebrate her life and contributions to her family and community. As we gather to remember Emma, we invite all who knew her to join us in sharing memories and stories that reflect the beautiful person she was.
May Emma Lois Pettis rest in peace, surrounded by the love she gave so freely and the joyful music she played. She will be greatly missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
We would like to thank Goodlife Senior Care, the nurses and hospice, Antoinette Encinias, and a very special thank you to Amber Benavidez.
