Emily Freeby, 74, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Emily was married to Douglas Freeby for 38 years and is survived by her siblings, Annabell Gallegos, Lydia Tapia, Johnny Tapia, Maria Ricard, J.R. Tapia, and Pamela Gutierrez. She is preceded in death by her parents, Angela and Severo Tapia; her siblings, Julia Tapia, Leroy Tapia, Charles Tapia; and brother-in-law, Vince Gallegos.
Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Severo and Angela Tapia on Friday, November 1, 1946, Emily was a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for over four decades but lived in Portales, New Mexico and Las Vegas, New Mexico growing up as a child. An avid gardener Emily could always be found tending to her yard and her prize roses. Growing up as an animal lover Emily would always have her dogs by her side whether it was outside watering her plants or lying beside her as she watched her favorite soap opera. Emily was a social butterfly and could be found dancing the night away at the Caravan East along side her sisters and nieces. A long time Balloonist Emily and Douglas were on a balloon chase crew for 2 decades. Her favorite past times included listening to Dwight Yoakam, spending time with family, and frequenting the casino.
A Celebration of Emily's life will be held on Thursday, January 19th, 2023, at French- Lomas in Albuquerque with a viewing at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
Interment will take place the following day on Friday, January 20th, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
