August 27, 1934 — June 25, 2012

Emilia Maria Rubio Avena-Vasquez, 77, a long time Rio Rancho resident, passed away June 25th 2012. She is survived by her children Lucy Martinez, Martha and Nivia Rubio, grandchildren Jazael, Edward Emilio, Jennifer Martinez, Thomas Howard and Veronica Martinez-Howard, Gwendoline, Lupita, Viki, Ruben Rodriguez and wife Articelica Villa-Rodriguez, great-grandchildren Destiny, Joseph, Jazmine and Daniella Jaramillo, Angelina, Marissa and Ylianna Martinez, Ruben and Miguel Angel Rodriguez, siblings Rafael, Otila, Antonia, Eva Avena and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, ever so patient, faithful, gentle and caring always greeting us with her warm innocent and cheerful smile and the most beautiful eyes glowing joyfully. She treasured friendships. So creative, she enjoyed, sewing, knitting and crocheting, drawing and singing, and cooking. She had the ability to make something beautiful out of very little. She loved nature, flowers, anything she planted grew. We loved to listen to her life stories such as the most wonderful times spent at her fathers ranch during her childhood, or that she resembled royalty at her wedding, nominated The most beautiful bride of the town, or how proud she was about her most prized treasures, her 3 daughters and each and every one of her beautiful grand and great-grandchildren. There will be a viewing at 6PM on Thursday the 28th at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 301 Camino Del Pueblo, Bernalillo, NM 87004, (Church Office Phone: 505-867-5252) followed by a rosary at 7pm at the same location(Eulogies welcome). There will be another viewing on Friday at 9am followed by the mass at 10AM with Msgr. Anthony Bolman at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park at 924 Menaul Blvd NE. Pallbearers will be Edward and Jazael Martinez, Ruben Rodriguez, Thomas Howard, Rafael Carrera and Ernest Miramontes.We will be honored if you could join us for a family and friends gathering at St Thomas Aquinas Parish D'Arco Hall at: 1502 Sara Rd SE Rio Rancho, NM,1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
