Emilia Luz Guevara

GUEVARA – Emilia “Luchi” Guevara, age 90, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1999, passed away on January 6, 2019. She was born in El Paso, Texas and graduated from El Paso High School and Texas Western (UTEP) with a chemistry major. She married Francisco A. Guevara, who preceded her in death in 1994. She resided in Los Alamos, New Mexico for 47 years where she was a volunteer in the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, public schools and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was employed by the YMCA for 13 years where she not only helped develop the Y’s program but also was a source of strength and support to many who came through the doors. She enjoyed many community activities. She is survived by her sister, Mary Welsh of El Paso, Texas; her children, Francisco A Guevara, Jr. of Taos, New Mexico, Ana M. Poropatic of Memphis, Tennessee, Rebecca L. McKernan of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Richard L. Guevara of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Daniel J. Guevara of Santa Fe, New Mexico; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her open heart and open home will be sorely missed by all who were loved by her. A Rosary will be said on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The celebration of the Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, January 10, 2019, 9:30 a.m. at San Felipe de Neri Perish 2005 North Plaza NW in Albuquerque followed by the burial at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to UNM Children’s Hospital.
