Wilkins, Elvira Reid Elvira Reid Wilkins passed away May 11, 2015 at the age of 101. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elvira Tarsy Reid and Daniel John Reid, and by her husband, William W. Wilkins. Elvira had no children, and is survived by one cousin, James Tarsy, Jr. (Jean) of Sarasota, Florida. She was born in New York City on April 19, 1914. Unusual for a young woman of her time, she enrolled at New York University, studying economics and business. After her marriage she applied her financial skills at home, taking pride in acting as the business partner, especially in managing their investments. Her husband, a civil engineer, worked overseas for most of his career overseeing construction of infrastructure for multinational companies. Elvira accompanied him everywhere. They spent time in Africa as well as in Peru and Brazil. Elvira thrived as a hostess, manager, and close companion to Billy. She picked up languages easily and enjoyed entertaining business associates. After decades of international living, they chose to retire to Albuquerque in the 1980s. Both were devoted to animals, and joined an equestrian hunting group, Juan Tomas Hounds. Although they did not ride, they attended hunts regularly as spectators, taking special interest in the young hounds. After Bill's death, Elvira continued to attend the weekly meets with the title of Field Secretary, taking attendance in rain or shine. She retired shortly before her 100th birthday. A memorial service is planned in November by members of Juan Tomas Hounds. Please visit our online guestbook for Elvira at . FRENCH - University 1111 University Blvd. NE 505-843-6333
