Elvira C. Meyer

Elvira Christina Meyer, 90, of Albuquerque NM, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at approximately 6:15 p.m. with her children and granddaughter by her side.

Elvira was born on Sunday, February 24, 1929 in Charla Colombia, South America. She moved to New York City at the age of 19 to learn English, and immerse herself in the United States culture. She became a talented seamstress which provided her exciting opportunities in New York City, and eventually Los Angeles, CA. Elvira moved back to Colombia for several years where she worked for the American Embassy. She made many lifelong friends through her work at the embassy who encouraged her to return to the United States.  In 1966, she moved to Miami, FL where she was attending school, and she met her future husband, Thomas “Tom” Meyer, who was vacationing in Florida. She moved to Tuscola, IL with Tom and after a few months, the two eloped to San Juan Puerto Rico where they married. Tom and Elvira had two children, Carmen and Alex Meyer.  Elvira lived in Tuscola for 28 years and eventually retired to Albuquerque, NM.

Elvira was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Ofelia Amaya Lora; her sisters, Sarita Bustos and Virginia “Minina” Laverde; her brothers, Hernando Lora, Eduardo Lora, and Hector Lora, and her husband, Thomas Meyer. Surviving are Elvira’s daughter, Carmen Meyer; husband, Paul Jenks; and granddaughter, Ofelia Jenks of Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Also, surviving are Elvira’s son, Alex Meyer, wife Beth Meyer; and grandchildren, Aiden Meyer, and Ava Meyer, of St. Joseph, Illinois.

Friends may visit Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas.  A Rosary will be recited Friday, April 5, 2019, 8:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd NW Albuquerque, NM 87105.
