Elvin "Pip" Rogers Brown, age 84, passed away at his home surrounded by his family under the beautiful blue sky in Echo Canyon, Albuquerque, New Mexico, on November 12, 2016.

Pip was born on April 19, 1932, in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York. He ran track throughout his high school years and met Caroline, who he would later marry before serving honorably in the Korean War. While living on Long Island, New York, Pip operated heavy equipment, including a crane where he dredged the Mt. Sinai Harbor in Miller Place, New York. Pip and Caroline moved, with their family, to New Mexico in 1974, and have lived in Echo Canyon, near Carnuel, ever since. They started what would become a busy dirt work, excavation, and heavy equipment business serving hundreds of customers throughout the East Mountains and beyond. Pip's dump truck, appropriately name "Sweet Caroline," and bright yellow backhoe and bulldozer were fixtures throughout the East Mountain communities that he and Caroline were so connected to. Hard work is the foundation on which Pip built his life and led his family, yet never took himself too seriously and was always quick to tell a joke or a good story. Pip's good nature and laughter helped him make many friends and acquaintances over the years. His family and close friends admire his wisdom, generosity, and kindness.
Trading his hobby of operating and maintaining his equipment for reading and watching movies, Pip's gradual ease into retirement was thoughtful and graceful.

Pip was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Caroline; his two daughters, Karen Anna Brown and Robin Lisa Fifer and her husband, Michael L. Fifer; his grandchildren, Robert Brown Carmody, Susan Anna Carmody, and Christopher Robert Faivre and wife, Tara; two great-grandsons; and extended family members. He is also survived by his beloved cat "Hanna Brown". He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

A gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Pip and Caroline's home in Echo Canyon. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made in his honor to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, 615 Virginia St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
