Elsie was born August 18, 1920 outside Ottawa, Ontario. She and her brother, Al, and sister, Florence, lived with their parents, Russell and Ethel Reaume, on their grandfather's farm. They moved to Detroit when Elsie was five. She loved sports: basketball, softball, baseball, and (when her mom wasn't looking) hockey. During WWII, Elsie joined the Canadian Army Medical Corps. After the war, she married Peter Cubra, and they raised four children. After her husband passed away, Elsie moved to New Mexico in 1973. She bowled, volunteered at Presbyterian Hospital and often went fishing with her best pal, Norma. Elsie was a founding member of Bear Canyon Senior Center, where she was active for 20 years. She died peacefully July 9, 2012 at age 91, with her daughter, Susan, at her side. Elsie is survived by her children, Kathy Delfate and husband, Chuck, Peter Cubra and wife, Johanna, Susan Matai and husband, Julius, and George Cubra and partner, Lillian; her beloved grandchildren, Marie (Oscar Gomez), Jessica, Michael, Rachel, Andrew (AJ), Jenny, Morgan, Jaclyn, and Janae; and her adored great-grandchildren, Damien and Brianna. Her funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., at French - Lomas Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bear Canyon Senior Center, New Mexico Special Olympics or The Center for Dementia Research are appreciated.
