Eloy Ramon Gutierrez, 94, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, December 14, 2018. He is the son of Antonio and Anita Gutierrez. Eloy was born in Albuquerque on June 1, 1924. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1941. He married his Miss America, Cecelia Cinocca, on September 26, 1943 at March Field Airbase in Riverside, CA. He served in WWII as a Staff Sergeant with the Aviation Engineers in the campaigns on Guam and Okinawa. After the war, he attended the University of New Mexico, graduating in 1941. He then attended Washington University School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1954. He practiced dentistry in Albuquerque from 1954 to 1988 and held memberships in several dental organizations. He was a member of the American Association of Dental Examiners and served on the New Mexico Dental Board as vice-president. He served on the admissions committee of the UNM School of Dental Hygiene. Eloy also served on the Albuquerque Library Advisory Board and as Chairman of the Environmental Planning Commission for the City of Albuquerque. He served as president of the parish school board of Our Lady of Fatima, as well as president of the parish council; and as president of the UNM Newman Center Men’s Guild.
Together, with a strong faith in God, Eloy and Cecelia lovingly raised six children. Eloy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cecelia; and their daughter, Lourdes. He is survived by his devoted children; Linda (Gerry), Eloy (Mary Kay), Teresa (Tim), Patty (Steve), Don (Yolanda), and Tim (Sue); 16 loving grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Russ Schultz and Dr. Neal Shadoff for their loving care.
A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4020 Lomas NE. Mass will be celebrated Friday, December 28, 2018, 8:15 a.m., also at Our Lady of Fatima Church. A private family interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Brothers of the Good Shepherd or Casa Angelia.
