Eloy F. Garcia, a wonderful, kind husband and father, was surrounded by his loving family when he was called to heaven on Thursday, January 18, 2024. The love of his life and wife, Lily held his hand as he continued onto his spiritual journey.
Eloy was born and raised by loving parents in Tucumcari, NM. Out of admiration for his brother Steven, a Green Beret, Eloy joined the US Army in 1963. He received specialized training as a Sentry/Scout German Shepard Dog handler at Fort Polk, Louisiana and deployed to Okinawa, Japan. His canine companions were dear to him. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. Eloy was a very hard worker, often working overtime and two jobs. He retired twice, first, from the Lumber Industry and later as a Bernalillo County Corrections Officer. He loved playing his guitar and harmonica; he also enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. Eloy had a big heart and beautiful smile! His greatest joy in life was his family!
Eloy was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Julia; his daughter, Gerlyn; and son, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Lily; daughter, Angel and husband, Luis; son, Joseph and wife, Denise; grandchildren, Lily, Luke, Elijah, Sherilyn, and Nicole; great-grandchildren, AJ, Michael, Samuel, Bella, and Envy; and many nieces and nephews.
We would also like to thank special friends, Diane and Elias and NM Veterans Hospice Care Team for all the compassion, respect and love bestowed upon Eloy and Family.
A memorial service will he held on Monday, February 12, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at FRENCH - University Chapel. Eloy will be laid to rest at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
