Ellen Irene (Winters) Elmore

Ellen Irene Elmore, 74, born Ellen Winetsky (Winters), Friday, April 18, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away with her daughters by her side on Saturday, May 15, 2021, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ellen is survived by her three children, Hannah Carter 46, Aaron Hunter 44, and Celeste Elmore Hernandez 32; her sons-in-law, Brian Carter and Dennis Hernandez; granddaughter, Olivia Carter; her brother, Robert Winters and his wife, Colleen; and her nephew, Samuel Winters.

Ellen studied art at Alfred University, graduating in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, before hitch-hiking her way in the early 1970's to Albuquerque. Ellen excelled at anything creative, painting, drawing, calligraphy, singing, song writing, and guitar playing, were among her many talents. One of her greatest prides was supporting her family by running her own pottery business and later had a craft business, Heart Art. Ellen had a passion for teaching and retired as an Educational Assistant in 2011.

Ellen was a quick-witted friend, with a warm smile, and was famous for her hugs. Her sense of humor and kindness lent her to have countless enduring friendships. She was an avid patron of the arts and would often be found at the opera, symphony, theater, dance recitals, or her home away from home, Popejoy Hall. She even attended a Scorpions concert with her walker in tow.

Ellen had a strong connection to her Jewish faith and was a member of Congregation Albert for most of her years in Albuquerque and sang in the Temple Choir. Although Ellen was gifted with an uncommon passion for the arts and her faith, her most cherished gifts were from her marriages to Tom Hunter and Larry Elmore: her three children.
