Reverend Elizabeth Lee Coleman Thomsen, PhD., 73, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on October 7, 2018 in Albuquerque.
Born to Elsie & Chesley Coleman, she grew up in Bellflower, Ca. and attended the University of California at Berkeley where she met Jeff Thomsen. They married and moved to Pleasanton, CA where she taught at Amador Valley High School. Elizabeth returned to academics and earned her Master's Degree in Christian Ethics from the Pacific School of Religion in 1982. She went on to earn a Doctorate in Biblical Theology and Feminist Hermeneutics from the Graduate Theological Union in 1991. She was a professor at San Jose State University and an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Jeff and Elizabeth moved to Albuquerque in 1994. She was a member, worship leader, and elder at Sombra Del Monte Christian Church. She cared for those in need in the church and her neighborhood every chance she got. Learning was her lifelong passion. She was a voracious reader and writer. Mrs. Thomsen is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jeff; her son, Scott Thomsen and wife, Wendy; her grandchildren, Drew and Delaney; her brother, Ches Coleman and wife, Byrd; niece, Kate; nephew, Michael; her best friend, Emily Stahl, and many other family and friends whose lives she graced.
Services will be Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11:00am, at Sombra Del Monte Christian Church, 2525 Vermont NE. Memorial contributions may be made to Sombra Del Monte Christian Church.
