Elizabeth MacKenzie

October 14, 1960 — January 13, 2025

Elizabeth MacKenzie, age 64, passed away at home, in the state of grace, having received the apostolic blessings and last rites of Holy Mother Church, in the Town of Bernalillo, New Mexico, in the early hours of Monday, January 13, 2025, on the Octave Day of the Epiphany.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by grandparents, Joseph Villere and Zelia Leger Duplechain, grandparents, Frank Patrick Lazarine and Laney L. McClain; father, Oville Joseph Duplechain, mother, Lillian Joyce Lazarine Duplechain; brothers Robert Patrick Duplechain, Stephen Oville Duplechain, and Larry Joseph Duplechain.

Elizabeth is survived by husband, Joseph Charles MacKenzie; sisters, Therese Marie Simcik (Robert) and Mariam Frances Duplechain; brothers, Francis (Frank) Michael Duplechain and Louis Paul Duplechain (Lilia), numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Elizabeth was dearly loved by her family and friends. She had a compassionate spirit and a loving heart. She was a faithful encourager, passionately loyal, witty, and loved to laugh. Her gift of hospitality was unsurpassed, always making sure her guests felt pampered and cared for. She was also a committed patriot who loved her country.

Elizabeth is the inspiratrix of the award-winning, critically acclaimed love poetry of her husband, one of the most prominent lyric poets of the twenty-first century. It is she who encouraged MacKenzie to return to poetry after a hiatus of thirty years and is therefore responsible for the existence of all his subsequent works.

Throughout their married life, Elizabeth and Joseph rejected the false religion created by the Second Vatican Council, opting instead to live by the tenants of divine and Catholic faith, the faith of their fathers. Elizabeth created a home that reflects her profound devotion, complete with a small private oratory where the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass has been offered by bishops and priests from throughout the world.

The Vespers of the Dead and Most Holy Rosary will be said for Elizabeth on the feast of St. Agnes, Tuesday, January 21, at 4:00 pm, with the Missa Requiem and burial to take place the following day, on the feast of Saints Vincent and Anastasius, Wednesday, January 22, at 10:00 am. The location of these events (where flowers may also be sent), is:

French Funeral Home

1275 Unser Blvd NE

Rio Rancho, NM 87144
