LLOYD, ELIZABETH GORMAN
Elizabeth (Betty) Gorman Lloyd, 82, Alb. NM, passed away 1:30 p.m., August 10, 2012 at Albuquerque's Ana Kaseman Hospital after a short illness. Betty was born in Trinidad, CO on January 4, 1930 to Matthew and Lois Gorman. Part of her early childhood was spent with her family on the slopes of 12,441' Baldy Mountain in northern New Mexico while her dad performed mine superintendent duties with the Aztec gold mining operations. She married Stanley Adam Lloyd on December 21, 1949 in Trinidad, CO. Survivors include her sister, Margret Neeley of Petaluma, CA; a son, Michael William and wife, Amy Lloyd, Alb., NM; a daughter, Karen Lee and husband, Doug Baltzley, Santa Fe, NM; four grandchildren, Jason, Sarah, Megan and Rebecca; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Stan of 56 years and her daughter, Lois Ann. Betty was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Raton, and P.E.O. Chapter N. She retired from the Raton Arthur Johnson Memorial Library after serving as a librarian for 21 years of which many of those years were in the capacity as Head Librarian. Betty had a deep appreciation for books and education. As a librarian, she inspired many young people over the years towards the same appreciation through her passion and ongoing dedicated efforts. She graduated from Trinidad State Junior College with an Associate's Degree in Business with follow-on employment at Los Alamos National Laboratory during World War II. She received the Raton Business and Professional Women's Club "Woman of the Year" award in 1982 for her achievements in the betterment of her community. Betty was also named the "Librarian of the Year" for New Mexico in 1985 by the New Mexico Library Association. Upon her retirement, she took great pride in serving with her husband as managers of the Raton Hunger Pantry and also volunteering as hosts at the Sugarite State Park Visitor's Center. She was a very caring and giving woman who showed great compassion for everyone she met. She and her husband Stan loved their life in Raton and found great joy in all their many friends, young and old, who resided there. She was an extraordinary daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt with a great sense of humor who graciously sacrificed much for her family. She will be greatly missed. A church service with be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Raton, NM on Saturday, August 18, 2012 beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a private interment at Fairmont Cemetery. A separate remembrance memorial in honor of Betty will be held at 6305 Sumac Dr., NW, Albuquerque, NM on August 26, 2012 beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Raton Arthur Johnson Memorial Library or to the P.E.O.
