Elias "Alex" Castillo

Elias "Alex" C. Castillo went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born to the late Ignacio and Flora Castillo, September 3, 1934 in Belen, NM. He was preceded in death by his children, Eli and Janet; brother, Ralph; and sisters, Viviana and Viola. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Shirley; sons, Alex M. of Belen, Joseph O. of Albuquerque, Michael S. Herrera (Sandra) of Albuquerque, Vincent R. Herrera (Agatha) of Albuquerque, Anthony D. Herrera (Ana Maria) of Fort Myers, FL. and Sonya M. Degener (Scott) of Albuquerque; as well as brothers, Mel, Jose, Patrick, Ben, and Robert; and sisters, Mary Ellen and Angela; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Elias served in the Korean War with United States Marine Corps and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was employed by the ATSF Railroad. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His joy was in loving and serving the Lord in many ministries of the Catholic Church. His time in later years was devoted to the daily meditation on the Scriptures and prayer for his loved ones. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5303 Phoenix Ave. NE. Interment will take place at Mount Calvary cemetery with full Military honors.
