Elfego J. Chavez, age 85, born on May 30, 1937, a life-long resident of Sena, NM, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, joining his wife, Lucille in heaven.
Elfego proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 - 1959. Elfego married Lucille in 1960 and raised a beautiful family. He was hardworking, he worked in the Uranium Mines in Grants and in road construction for 45 years, in addition to working on the Ranch.
After retirement, Elfego with his wife, Lucille, continued to run their family convenience store and gas station in Sena, NM.
Elfego was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Chavez; his parents, Apolonio and Isidora Chavez; brother, Manuel (Josie) Chavez; sister, Virginia Chavez Lambert; mother and father-in-law, Oliver and Rita Hern; sister and brothers-in-law, Leandra (Willie) Torres, Mary Hall, Willie (Justa) Hern, Frank (Piedad) Hern, Oliver (Margie) Hern, and Leandro Villanueva.
He is survived by his children; Eileen Chavez (Louie),Gabriel (Louella) Chavez, Bertha (David) Martinez, Yvonne (Andrew) Gonzales and Sandra Chavez; fur baby; Bud; grand-daughters, Sabrina (Jeanette), Heather (Vicente), Angelique (Ray), Ashleigh, Roxanna, Lydia, and Katheryn (Josh); grandsons, Joshua, Gabriel E, Andrew (Joanna), David, and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Delano, Hailey, Laila, Jolyssa (Brice), Addy, Aria, Nik, Sharmaine, Bella, Chelsea, Xoey, Baby New, J.J., Anthony, Marcus, Elijah, and Nicholas; great-great-grandchildren, Sammy, and Eleanor; sisters, Molly (Tobias) Ortiz, and Gavina (Joseph) Vigil; brother, Leo (Isabel) Chavez; sisters-in-law, Theresa Villanueva and Joan Mccoy. A special cousin who he referred to as his sister, Frances (Paul) Saiz, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and Godchildren who loved him dearly. His family was surely blessed.
A Rosary will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 10:30 a.m., St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Road, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, at 2:00 p.m. with the following serving as Pallbearers; Joshua C., Gabriel E. C., Andrew R. G., David J. M., Nathan L., Vicente L., Ray C. and Josh P. A reception and celebration of life will follow the burial at the Fraternal Order of Eagles 833 Early Street, Santa Fe, NM.
