Eleanor Ruth Backart

Eleanor Ruth Backart, 95, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Eleanor was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 14, 1922. She is survived by her daughters, Jan Bernson and Rudi Owens or Corrales, New Mexico; her son, Lloyd Steven Backart of Illinois and her sister Esther J. Obermeyer of Colorado. She is lovingly remembered by her granddaughters, Sarah Bernson of Washington DC, Nora Bernson of Corrales, NM and Leah Backart of Missouri; her grandsons, Zac Scribner of California and Alex Backart of Michigan and her great grandchild, Ella.

Throughout her lifetime, Eleanor made friends in many communities she called home including Grand Rapids, MI, Seattle, WA, Birmingham, MI, Westport, CT, Newport Beach, CA, Stuart, FL, Dunwoody, GA and Albuquerque, NM.

While in Albuquerque, Eleanor was active in the Newcomers Club and a member of the Faith Lutheran Church.

Eleanor will be interred in a private ceremony in the Santa Fe National Cemetery next to her husband, Lloyd G. Backart, a veteran of WWII. Lloyd earned two Bronze stars and a Presidential Unit Citation after serving in the Asiatic Pacific and had an honorable burial in 2014.
