Edwin Lawrence Shellenberger

d. October 29, 2017

Edwin Lawrence Shellenberger, age 83, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away October 29, 2017. Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cindy; his children, Sherry Shellenberger (Mary Sue), Shelley Brethouwer (Lloyd), Ed III, and Sandey Guidice (Rafe); and grandchildren, Ryan, Mckenna, and Bennett Guidice.

Born in Altoona, PA, and a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, Ed valued faith, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Rose Shellenberger; and three older brothers, Robert, Donald, and Richard. Ed was a talented musician, playing saxophone and clarinet. A graduate of Penn State University, he paid his tuition with money he earned performing in big bands and teaching music lessons.

Ed was particularly proud of his 31-year career with the National Park Service and the bright and talented colleagues he had the opportunity to work with. Due to his contributions, parks and recreation facilities throughout the United States are available for everyone’s enjoyment.

Ed lived a life of service through volunteer work in his church, as a board member for New Mexico Special Olympics, and as a volunteer for Ed III’s Boy Scout troop. Ed loved music, particularly big band music and John Philip Sousa marches. He loved his family and delighted in sharing time together. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and their achievements in academics, sports, and music. Even in his last few days here on earth, it was so important for him to know that his dear wife Cindy and his son Ed III would be well taken care of.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, November 17, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE. A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Wyoming.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics of New Mexico at www.sonm.org.
