Padilla, Edward
Edward (Eddie) Padilla peacefully went to eternal happiness on February 27, 2016, after 96 years in this world. Edward was born October 12, 1919 to his cherished parents, Eugenia and Tranquilino Padilla. Edward helped to support his family at an early age including entering the Civilian Conservation Corps during the construction of Elephant Butte Dam.
Edward was a proud veteran, serving his country in World War II for the US Army, 7th Calvary, fighting in combat in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in the New Guinea, Luzon, Leyte and Bismarck Archipelago Campaigns. He was recognized for his bravery with award of several medals, including a Bronze Star Medal. Edward was also recognized for his leadership in battle by being field commissioned to First Lieutenant.
After returning from the war, Edward married Feliciana (Chana) Duran in January 1946. Edward and Chana enjoyed spending time with family and friends and proudly raising their only child, Eddie Jr. Edward's love for Chana during their 56 years of marriage was never more evident as it was during his unwavering devotion to Chana's care during her challenge from dementia.
Edward worked 30 years for Piggly Wiggly, including as store manager at various locations in Albuquerque. Edward was active throughout his life. In his younger years he played catcher for the Martineztown Tigers and later enjoyed fishing, golfing, walking and growing green chili and tomatoes. Edward also vocally supported his grandchildren, Keith, Kyle, and Cassie, during their participation in sporting activities and often expressed his admiration for his daughter-in-law, Jan.
Edward experienced the sadness of many deaths during his life including young siblings, fellow and opposition soldiers, immediate and extended family, friends, his wife and one grandchild, but he always relied on his belief in his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ to assist him in being grateful for their presence while on earth and in anticipation of their eternal happiness.
