Edward Joseph "Ned" Nevera, Jr.
November 28, 1962 - August 22nd, 2021
Ned passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 22nd 2021. He was born in Evanston, IL, graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Chicago, and upon graduation from the University of Illinois, Chicago was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and during his 24 year Air Force career, was stationed in the Philippines, Germany, England, Northwest Florida and retired from Kirtland Air Force base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. However, the pinnacle of his career came when he was stationed at the Pentagon and was in the building on September 11, 2001. He was also an Iraq War veteran embedded with the Army at Forward Operating Base War Eagle in Sadr City. It was an experience that affected him deeply.
During his 24 year career, he earned many accommodations and medals. The most notable being: Bronze Star, Air Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal and many others.
One of Ned's lifelong goals was to complete one marathon in every state. He had completed at least 10 marathons and was training for his next when he passed. He was a lover of history, specifically WWII. He felt a calling to preserve the histories of the brave servicemen and enjoyed collecting memorabilia and reading their stories.
Ned had two daughters, one here on earth and the other in heaven. He is survived by his four siblings, nieces, nephews and even great nieces and nephews! He will be missed by his friends, family and co-workers.
