Edward "Ned" Merrell

MERRELL, EDWARD "NED" VOGTMERRELL, EDWARD "NED" VOGTEdward Vogt "Ned" Merrell, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, March 22, 2013. He was born in Indianapolis to Clarence and Irene. Ned is survived by; his wife, Peggy, whom he married in 1948; children, Molly M. Madden and husband, Richard, Barbara Merrell and husband, Richard Waters, daughter, Sally M. Leichtling and husband, Ely, M Ruth Merrell, Katherine A. Merrell and husband, Anil Kashyap, grandchildren; Jennifer, Melissa and Ellen Madden, Cindy and Trey Waters, Sam and Becky Leichtling, Alec Rosen and Laurie and Julie Merrell; his brother, Robert V Merrell along with many other family and friends. Mr. Merrell was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Mary Louise Hunter. After his first year at Amherst College, Ned's education was interrupted by World War II, during which he served in the 15th Army Air Corp, based in Foggia, Italy. In 1946 he returned to Amherst and earned a BA, followed by an MBA at Indiana University. Ned then spent thirty years at the Graham Paper Company in St. Louis where he served as VP/Operations, followed by five years as the CEO of Ira E. Berry Inc. Real Estate, and then retired to Albuquerque, NM. In St. Louis he was active in the Rotary Club and the Webster Groves Congregational Church. In Albuquerque his volunteer activities included; mediation in Better Business Bureau cases, Meals on Wheels, the Unitarian Church and board positions at the Boys and Girls Club, Tennis Club of Albuquerque, and the Cottonwood Gulch Foundation. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 28, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Interment will take place at Bay View, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Cottonwood Gulch Foundation, PO Box 25106, Albuquerque, NM 87125, or the college of your choice.
