Edward A. Chavez, age 89, a life-long resident of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, September 10, 2023. He is survived by his children, Jason Chavez and his wife, Pamala, Maria Chavez and her fiancée, Kenny Flores, and Eddie Chavez and his wife, Margaret Saiz; four grandchildren, Christina Mosely and her husband, Sean, Brandon Chavez and his wife, Geralynn, Mathaius Willig, and Brenda Smith; five great-grandchildren, Oliver Chavez, Owen Chavez, Ericray, Santos, and Dominic; and numerous other relatives and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Nicolas Chavez and Maria Bazan; brothers, Henry Chavez, Alfredo Chavez, Johnnie Chavez, Nick Chavez, Jr., and Delfino Chavez; sisters, Julia Chavez and Lita Gallegos; and grandchild, Dominic Smith.
Edward was born in December of 1933 in the house he was born in on Chavez Road in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. Edward married Rose Marie on October 29, 1958 and they were married 53 years until Rose Marie passed away in August of 2012. Edward grew up in the North Valley and was a farm hand for his father until he joined the Navy. Edward joined the US Navy in 1952, was honorably discharged in 1955, and was discharged from the US Naval Reserves in 1959. Edward was an ironworker, and a welding instructor. He loved hanging out with his coffee buddies and going to the Casino. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and mentor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, 8:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 4th Street and Alameda NW.
