Edward Lee Bernal went to be with his Lord on October 23, 2024.
Eddie was born on March 12, 1948, in Socorro, New Mexico to Frank and Lupe Bernal. He enjoyed spending his childhood with his two brothers, Nestor and Delano and his two sisters, Delphi, and Vangie. In 1964 he met the love of his life, Yvonne Fajardo. They met in study hall, where it was love at first sight...for him. Eddie worked hard to win Yvonne's heart, but once he did, they were inseparable. Eddie and Yvonne got married on July 29, 1968, witnessed by their best friends and Yvonne's brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Patricia Fajardo. Eddie graduated from Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1969, with Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering.
After Eddie graduated him and Yvonne moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where Eddie worked as an engineer at the test site. They spend every night with their friends Arvil and Sally Rhinehart, playing canasta. One year later, Eddie became a father, Eddie and Yvonne welcomed their first daughter Melissa in 1970, and shortly after their second daughter, Marlena, in 1971. Two years later they welcomed their third daughter, Melanie. Eddie was a hands-on father, he was his girls' coach, biggest fan, and strongest supporter. Eddie worked as an electrical engineer for 35 years and retired twice as a published researcher, highly respected educator, and a wealth of knowledge in his field.
In 1993 Eddie the husband and father was promoted to Gramps. He had eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He had a unique, and personal relationship with each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was able to step in to each child's life and fill their specific need, making each feel loved, valued, and special. Eddie and Yvonne created a home which served as a refuge for everyone in their family. Eddie filled his life with his family, his passions, and his hobbies. He loved spending time outdoors fishing, camping, boating, gardening, golfing, woodworking, bowling with his brother-in-law Phillip, and traveling with his wife. More than these he loved sharing and teaching each to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Eddie held many titles throughout his life, from friend to boss, but he cherished none other more than that of husband, father, Gramps, and uncle. He loved hosting his big crazy family for every holiday, and filled his house with love and laughter. He enjoyed this time so much that rather than going to bed at the end of the night, he would simply go to the living room and fall asleep to the sound of his family laughing. He served as the center of gravity for his family, and he will be deeply missed. He put his family first, always, and the effects of his sacrifices will be everlasting in those he left behind.
Eddie is survived by his wife Yvonne, his children Melissa, Marlena, Melanie, Delali and William, his grandchildren Richard, Rachael, Rebecca, Brandon, Brittany, Brieanna, Brooke, Samuel, Hannah, Daniel, Jeslyn, Shawn, Ignacio, his great grandchildren Mesa, Xavi, and Ozzy, and his sisters Delphi, Vangie.
