Edna Belle Harrison was born on December 24, 1937, the only daughter to loving parents Eddie and Martha Hayes in Beaumont Texas. She is the third of eight children born to the union.
Edna graduated with honors from Hebert High School in Beaumont, Texas, class of 1956. After graduation, she left Beaumont and departed to San Francisco, where she received both a bachelor's and master's degree in library science from San Jose State University. She worked for the San Francisco Public Library for 40 years before retiring there.
Edna has always been praised for her willingness to help anyone in need. During her years in San Francisco, she took in two of her brothers, Lionel and Earl, and help them achieve their educational goals.
The central part of Edna's life has been her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She has always given her all to the Church and the things of God. She was a longtime worshipper at Emanuel Church of God in Christ, where she served in various capacities.
The love of Edna's life was her husband, Bill Van Harrison, Senior. They were married nearly 40 years until his passing in 1996. She is also preceded in death by her son Bill Van Harrison, Jr. and Robert Earl Harrison.
Edna later moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to be a part of her children and grandchildren's life, where she remained in her later years.
On Sunday, June 30, 2024, Edna departed this life and transitioned to her home in glory. Six of her eight siblings preceded her in death (Wilfred, Edward, Eddie Jr, Earnest, Lionel, and Lester).
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Renetta, son Ronald, stepdaughter Shirley Hunter; grandchildren Brianna, Benjamin, Lauren, and Thea, and her brother Earl (wife Michelle); Sister-in-Law, Earnestine Hayes; Aunt, Vivian Bassard; Nieces Carlean Mitchell, Rhonda, Erica, Stephann Elizabeth Hayes, Rachel, Anita, Mary Edy, Arielle; nephews Larry, Wilfred, Jr., Ronald Earl, Earnest Jr., Lionel (Terry), Zekaria, and Mishael Hayes, along with her great grandchildren, and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
