Edith Sheets, born February 16, 1924, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, passed away on August 27, 2021. Born in Louisville, KY, she went to school and lived in Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Missouri. Her first job was as an engineering draftsman for Curtis Wright Aeronautics in St. Louis during World War II, where she had her first taste of symphonic music and the legitimate theatre interests, which were to become the joys of her life. After completing a master's degree in Christian Education, she served as director of Christian Education at Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN, and First Presbyterian Church in Ft. Worth, TX. After her marriage and the birth of her 3 daughters, Sandi Pressley Adamson, Peggy Sheets and Jeannie Sheets, she became an elementary school teacher in Albuquerque. She retired in 1991 after 30 ½ years teaching at San Antonito, Los Altos, Inez, Dennis Chavez, and Edward G. Ross Schools. Her great joy was her 29 years as a member of the New Mexico Symphony Chorus. She was a very active volunteer with the Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity and the Albuquerque Guild of the Santa Fe Opera and the Guild for the Opera Southwest and many other civic and arts organizations. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 4:00pm at FRENCH-Wyoming, with a delicious catered reception to follow.
