Edith Mae "Edye" (Fattor) Matte

February 12, 1928 — October 24, 2013

MATTE, EDITH MAE "EDYE" (FATTOR) Went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, October 24, 2013. She was surrounded by her loving family when she died. Edye was born on February 12, 1928 in Madrid, NM but spent her childhood in Gallup, NM. Her senior year, 1945, Edye was the Tiger Queen at Gallup High School. A nursing degree was bestowed upon her from Northwest Texas College in Amarillo, TX in 1948. In 1950, Edye married the love of her life, Arthur T. Matte and supported him and their three children while he attended Creighton University's Dental School. When Art graduated, they made the decision to move to Albuquerque and make a life for themselves and their young family. Art and Edye were founding members of Holy Ghost Parish and School. Edye was a devout Catholic and insisted their kids receive a Catholic education. As a result, they put their nine children through Holy Ghost School and all are graduates of St. Pius X High School in Albuquerque. Seven children also attended a Jesuit University (Creighton) in Omaha, NE. Whether you called her "hon," mom, nana, Mae, or Aunt Edye, she was the epitome of love and caring. She was the perfect wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. Edye will be remembered for her tireless mothering skills, generosity, and empathy for those who were not as fortunate as her family. There was not a charity who solicited that did not receive some type of support. And of course, Edye loved to shop. Even going to the grocery store was an adventure for her. Mrs. Matte was preceded in death by her parents, Vito and Emma Fattor and by her grandson, Andrew Kneafsey. Edye is survived by her husband, Dr. Arthur T. Matte, Sr. of the family home: daughters and sons and their spouses: Lynn and Steve Gibbs, Debbie and Mark Rhoten, John and Lynn Matte, Tom and Rebecca Matte, Mary and Jimmy McIntyre, Laura Matte and husband Tim Kneafsey, Gina and Kent Seacat, Lisa and Steve Johnston, and Tina and Jason Klumb. Also surviving her is her brother, Victor Fattor and his wife Mary; numerous nephews, nieces, and godchildren. Edye also had 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren Leah (Blake) Gibbs Ramsey, Lara and Jake Gibbs, Ryan (Adele) Rhoten, Maegan (Jeff) Rhoten Paulson, Dustan (Sara) Rhoten, Hannah Rhoten, Amy Matte, Katlyn (Jason) Robbins, Matthew Matte, Sarah Beth Matte, Kevin (Katie) McIntyre, Jaime and Jennifer McIntyre, Nicholas Kneafsey, Emmalee Kneafsey, Kylee and Michael Seacat, Garrett Johnston, Matte and Rylee Klumb. Great-grandchildren are Noah and Ella Ramsey, Maggie and Molley McIntyre, and Paisley Paulson. A Rosary will be recited on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church, 833 Arizona Avenue SE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated following the Rosary. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests, if you so desire, a donation in Edye's memory to El Ranchito de los Niños Foundation, P. O. Box 2400, Los Lunas, NM 87301, Creighton University, Development Office, "Matte Family Endowed Scholarship," 2500 California Plaza, Omaha, NE 68178 or Right to Life, 2413 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. A special thanks to the beautiful people associated with Presbyterian Hospice, especially Patsy, Barbara, and Sylvia.
