Edith Marie (nee Durzo) Fickel passed away on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014. She was born on April 2, 1928. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack Fickel; children, Martin Fickel and Gwen Fickel FitzGerald; grandchildren, Sara FitzGerald, Ryan FitzGerald, Derek Fickel and Kevin Fickel; nephews, F. John Durzo and Allen Johnson; nieces, Judith L. Durzo and Lisabeth Durzo Sisk and Beverly McCall; great-nephews, Matthew Sisk and Dustin Durzo, and great-nieces Anne Sisk and Danielle Durzo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruno and Maria Durzo; daughter, Peggy Fickel; brother and sister-in-law, Frank J. and Elizabeth Durzo; sisters, Amelia Durzo and Lucille Durzo; and nephew David Durzo. Edith earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin. Jack and Edith moved to Albuquerque in 1957. She was a children's librarian in Albuquerque Public Libraries for 24 years and served as head librarian at the Erna Ferguson branch. She loved her family, friends and four-legged family. She and Jack had a house full of dogs, and there was always room for one more. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at FRENCH - University.
