Edgar A. Amsden III passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Ed was born in Wichita, Kansas on Sunday, January 30, 1944 to Edgar A. Amsden II and Martha Amsden (Durbin). Along with his family and little sister Martha, Ed moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1950. Ed attended Zia Elementary School, Wilson Middle School, and Sandia High School. After graduating High School in 1962, Ed attended the University of New Mexico and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Public Accounting. While attending UNM, Ed joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon where he made life-long friendships. Ed went on to have a career as a Certified Public Accountant that spanned for over four decades and he was well-respected in the Albuquerque business community. Ed was passionate about his job, cared deeply about those that he worked with and took a genuine interest in his clients. Ed was a veteran of the United States Army and spent two years stationed in Korea serving in the artillery unit. As an athlete and lover of nature, Ed enjoyed skiing, golfing, jogging, swimming, fishing and riding his bicycle. Some of his fondest memories were of hiking the Grand Canyon with his friends and exploring the Valles Caldera. Ed enjoyed History, Geology, the Wild West, The Rolling Stones, Pacific Beach, California, animals and wildlife. Ed was kind, generous, wise, dependable, consistent, non-judgmental, and full of integrity. Above all else, Ed valued his family and imparted the importance of always putting family first onto his children. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Ginny Amsden; his sister Martha Paynter (Phil Barnes); his four children: Scott Smit, Tammie Smit, Elisa Lipovsky (Ian Lipovsky), Bonni Amsden (Leif Guillermo); grandchildren: Avery Rogers (Felicia Hernandez), Jaycee Rogers, Keegan Smit, Brayden Smit, Ashton King, Evelyn Lipovsky, Oliver Guillermo; and great-grandchildren: Lillie Lewis, Zaiden Hernandez, Johnny Rogers, and James Rogers. A private service will be held in Ed's honor for close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to HopeWorks of New Mexico or the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance.
