Ed Mason

d. October 1, 2015

It is with great sadness that the family of Ed Mason, 62, of Albuquerque, NM, announce his death October 1, 2015. Ed was faced with the unexpected diagnosis of an aggressive form of cancer and as was true to his nature, he dealt with it in a gracious and courageous manner.

A man of infinite class, he was a loving gentleman with a passion for ideas, intellect, and humor assuring that individuals were left in a better place than they had been before they met him. He loved and cherished his immediate and extended family, and married the love of his life, Nancy Ridenour. In addition to innumerable friends and acquaintances, Ed is survived by his parents Clarence and Sondra Mason of Lubbock, TX, sisters and their husbands; Linda Dunn and Bryan of Lubbock, Lisa Sneed and Frank of Colleyville, TX, nieces and nephews; Joni McDoniel, Jamie Jones and Jonathan Sneed.

Ed graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1971, later attaining his Bachelors of Political Science from Eastern New Mexico University, and Masters of Political Science from Texas Tech University. His professional work focused on fund raising for non-profits and educational organizations which gave Ed the opportunity to share his talents and successes in Lubbock, Albuquerque, Bloomington, Illinois, Washington, D.C., and China.
An apt description of Ed includes the following... "When one hears the word friend, Ed is the first one who comes to mind; a loyal, thoughtful, gentle, caring soul who found it natural to reach out beyond the superficial barriers that often keep us from finding kindred spirits. May our collective spirits be renewed by the character of the man Ed was, and by works and deeds that defined his life. Ed will be greatly missed!

To celebrate Ed Mason's life, his family asks that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the UNM College of Nursing New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium Endowment. Donations can be mailed to the UNM Foundation, Two Woodward Center, 700 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102. For more information, contact Sara Lister, Director of Development at (505) 272-0200.
