Earl Bryan Hobbs Jr., age 81, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Earl was born on June 1, 1941, in Dallas, Texas to Earl Bryan Hobbs and Patti (Hopping) Hobbs. He was raised in Lubbock, Texas where he helped his parents with the family cotton gin and attended the First Baptist Church in Lubbock. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1959 and attended Texas Tech. Earl also obtained his pilot’s license flying small private aircraft for West Texas Aviation in Lubbock prior to entering the Army 1965. While in the Army he served two tours of active duty in Vietnam where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Aircraft Crewman’s badge, Overseas Service Badge, Sharpshooter Badge (M-14) and Air Metal for Meritorious Achievement While Participating in Aerial Flight. Earl left full time military service in 1968 but remained in the reserves until 1971.
After his military service he joined the Federal Aviation Administration where he spent the remainder of his career until retirement. Earl met his wife, June, in the early 1970’s when she began working at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. He would then go on to become her instructor after she also joined the Federal Aviation Administration in 1975. They remained close friends for years and finally married in July of 1989. They enjoyed traveling most of all and shared many grand adventures traveling as far as Russia and China. Earl also enjoyed riding motorcycles and all things Aviation.
Earl is survived by his wife, June Hobbs; and her children; grandchildren; and siblings; his sister, Sylvia Wierick; niece, Shelley Howard and her husband, Gregg Howard.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 2, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Los Altos Christian Church, 11900 Haines Avenue NE, with Reverend Amy Hirsch as celebrant.
Friends may visit Tuesday, January 3, 2023, 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH – Lomas.
Burial will follow the visitation 12:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
