Earl Broidy, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Los Angeles, CA on Thursday, April 3, 1930 to Bessie and Nathaniel Broidy. As a boy he developed a passion for gardening and spent his summers and weekends working at the local nursery. Gardening was a lifelong hobby and he became a master gardener. He was also a lifelong sports fan. He graduated from University of Southern California in 1952 with a degree in Pharmacy. Upon graduation, he joined the Army and during the Korean War was stationed at Osaka Army Hospital in Japan where he worked as a pharmacist and collected a myriad of poignant and funny stories. Upon his return he built a successful pharmacy practice, which he ran until his retirement in 2009, surviving competition from big chain stores with creative business strategies and personalized customer care. When he retired, he and his wife Susan moved to Albuquerque, NM where he enjoyed learning about desert gardening and playing with his grandchildren. He and Susan both loved travel, theater, movies, and dining and together enjoyed a full life exploring these shared interests. Earl is known to his friends and family as a warm-hearted man with a big smile, a hearty laugh, and a seemingly endless arsenal of jokes and stories.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Broidy; his daughters, Andrea Spiegler, Natalie Davis, Lisa Broidy, and Jennifer Duvall along with their husbands and partners; his grandchildren, Adam Spiegler, Erin Sherer, Benjamin Spiegler, Joshua Davis, Naomi Davis, Hazel Duvall, and Rosa Duvall; and his great granddaughter, Nora Spiegler.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2019, 1:00 p.m. at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110 followed by a burial at Fairview Memorial Park and a celebration of life at Susan’s house.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made on Earl’s behalf to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org/donate).
