E. Elaine McCarty

E. Elaine McCarty, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1981, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016. She is survived by her husband, Ben E. McCarty to whom she was married for 54 years. She is also survived her son Clay and daughter-in-law Maggie and grandson Jack, of Poolesville, Maryland, son Marcus and son-in-law Rowel Fulinara of Phoenix, Arizona and daughter Fay Barz and grandson Colin Barz of Albuquerque, NM. Elaine is also survived by sisters Reona Varnado, Marie Hulsey and Nancy Shell. She was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Inez Beach, siblings Morrell, Revis, Wallace, Jimmy, Ralph and Eddie, Cloteal Polk and Bonnie Hoy.
Elaine was born January 26, 1941 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. She graduated from Hazlehurst HS and attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College before going to work at the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Mississippi. It was there she met her husband.
During their marriage, Elaine and Ben have lived in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Maryland and Albuquerque, NM. They enjoyed traveling throughout the southwest and took trips to Alaska, Germany and Ireland. Elaine worked retail, most recently, at Macy's in the Better Sportswear Department. In retirement, Elaine was an active volunteer with the Assistance League of Albuquerque for over 10 years. She also was active with United Methodist Women at St. John's United Methodist Church.
Elaine loved her family and friends and enjoyed hosting dinner and holiday parties in her home. She had a passion for cooking, baking and entertaining. She was famous for her Santa collection at Christmas and her spring and summertime gardening skills. Gram loved supporting her grandsons in their boy scout, athletic, church and academic endeavors. She was a favorite in the stands at Roadrunner Little League and at Eldorado football games.
Elaine's funeral service will be on Saturday, September 3, at 11:30 AM at St. John's United Methodist Church at 2626 Arizona NE, 87110, followed by a private Graveside service at Sunset Memorial Park. Later that evening, the family will host an open house to receive family and friends.
