Age 68, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 24, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lela Mae Pruitt, and his beloved dog, Osa. Dwayne was born in Gilmer, Texas on September 21, 1944. He moved with his parents and sister, Burdy to Albuquerque when he was in junior high. He would later move to Moriarty where he worked on a ranch owned by Dan Williams, who soon became a second father to Dwayne. He graduated from Moriarty High School in 1964 and enlisted in the Air Force the next year. He proudly served his country and was a Vietnam veteran. Dwayne worked for PNM for 34 years, retiring in 2005. During that time, he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator and was an Assistant B.A. for IBEW Local Union 611 for two of those years. While he never shied away from a hard day's work, he found joy in retirement through spending time with his wife, his grandchildren and being outside. He was often found working in his garden, or tending the yard and his multitude of animals. He also loved to fish, but for Dwayne, it was never about catching fish. His enjoyment came from being outside with family, huddled around a line in the water. If he was lucky, and the fish did bite, well that was just an added bonus. He was also a huge fan of Willie Nelson, John Wayne, and he never missed a Dallas Cowboys game on TV. Dwayne is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Sandy Pruitt; sister, Burdy Salazar; Dan Williams; children, Lisa Hinkson, Darryll Pruitt (Kim Pruitt), and Carrie Khalsa (Jote Khalsa); and grandchildren, Aubrey Hinkson and Akasha and Kyrin Khalsa. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff and nurses, especially Bobbi, Valerie, Michelle and Nicole at the ID and Internal Medicine Associates, P.C.. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in the University Chapel. In lieu of flowers and due to Dwayne's love of animals, especially shelter pets, the family is requesting that donations be made to: Treasurer, Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres, 139 Palacio Rd. Corrales, NM 87048.
