Duane Erwin Walker 82, was born on January 27, 1941, and died on August 11, 2023, after a long, hard- fought battle with Parkinson’s . He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Estilene Walker, and Eldon Walker, cherished nephew. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann Walker, and his daughter, Lisa Walker. He is also survived by his sisters, Doris Jelsomino (Don) of Indiana, and Audrey Johnson (Alan, deceased) of Washington state; and brother Merrill Walker (Jeannie) of Alabama.
Duane graduated from Highland High School in 1959 and continued his education at University of New Mexico. He was the owner of Walker Construction Company from 1979 until his retirement. Walker Construction Company performed road and airport runway concrete-breaking all over New Mexico and parts of the US.
Duane was a proud charter member of the Edgewood Masonic Lodge Number 82. He made many lifelong friendships through the Lodge. In fact, on July 22, 2023, the Lodge honored Duane by naming their building the Duane and Mary Ann Walker Masonic Center. Duane was able to attend the ceremony and participate in the unveiling of the sign and ribbon-cutting. A very fitting and poignant finish to a very important part of Duane’s life.
The family would like to thank Morningstar at Northridge, where Duane spent the last year of his life. They truly put the word “care” into caregiving. Legacy Hospice cared for both Duane and Mary Ann during his last months, and the family is so grateful for their care and attention.
No formal services are planned. The family feels that the honor bestowed on Duane by the Masonic Lodge was appropriate and sufficient. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Legacy Home Health and Hospice, 3610 Bosque Plaza Lane, Northwest, Albuquerque, NM 87120.
