Duane Andersen (age 83) was born in Elgin, Illinois in 1941 to John Andersen and Georgia Chinn. He was preceded in death by his siblings Virginia Jones, Emil Andersen, June Potts, and Barbara Holbrook. In 1959, Duane moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he met Maria Frances Serna. Duane started his walk with God when he became a Catholic in order to marry his bride. They began their marriage and their legacy on March 16, 1963.
Duane is survived by his wife Maria (Fran), his son Dane Andersen and daughter Tina Torres. His grandchildren are Matthew Andersen & wife, Rebecca Andersen, Robert Andersen, Kenneth Torres, and Amanda Torres & husband Marcus Kempf. His great grandchildren are Lilliana Rose and Elizabeth Rae Andersen and Natalia, Caleb, Ethan, and Mina Kempf.
Duane only had an 8th grade education; but through his own ambition, obtained his GED and a Bachelor's degree in Labor Studies. Duane retired from the UA Local 412 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He had recently received his 65 year pin for his dedication to the Union. While in the Union, he held positions of Secretary Treasurer and Organizer. He was also an officer for the AFLCIO.
Duane was a "Jack of all trades". He was a Salesman in World Market Centers. He drove a Semi from California to New Mexico. Duane had built his family's home with his own hands and determination. Duane and Fran were involved in the ministry of Marriage Encounter for 30 years. He used his many skills to pursue his passions. He built race cars for his friends and played rounds of golf every week with his buddies. He will always be remembered for his generosity to family and friends.
